Carrie Underwood Pays Tribute to Vegas Shooting Victims with Beautiful CMA Performance

It’s been over a month since the devastating Las Vegas shooting at a country music festival, but it’s clear the memory of those lost isn’t forgotten.

The annual Country Music Awards made sure to pay tribute to the victims of the tragedy in an emotional segment featuring co-host Carrie Underwood.

Underwood opened her appearance by saying, “This has been a year marked by tragedy impacting countless lives including so many in our country music family. So tonight we’re gonna do what families do: Come together, pray together and cry together, too.”

With photos of the victims behind her, she sang the traditional hymn “Softly and Tenderly Jesus is Calling,” and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house—even with Underwood herself.

She gets noticeably choked up during her performance—you can’t deny she was feeling the emotion of the song.
