Teacher Helps Special Needs Student Graduate by Teaching Him After-School Hours

This high school senior from Georgia was brought to tears one morning when a teacher showed up at his doorsteps.

19-year-old Jamias Howard, is a student at Griffin High School and unlike most students, Howard struggles in school due to special needs.

A semester before graduation, Howard was no longer able to make it to class.

While many people may have given up on him, his special needs teacher Kimberly Wimbish believed in him. She told Channel 2 that “she was just doing her job, ensuring that all of her students succeeded.”

Howard was only a handful of credits away from graduation, so Wimbish decided she would volunteer her time and meet Howard every day after school. She met him at the park, Burger King, anywhere Howard was willing to go.

“I want so much for these babies,” Wimbish said. “They have to have a fighting chance.”

On Saturday morning, the high school teacher drove by Jamias’ house to present him his cap and gown. He made it to the end and was going to be graduating at Griffin Memorial Stadium.

Wimbish has set up a GoFundMe page for Jamias if you would like to help him.
