6-Month Pregnant Mother Murdered for Unwanted Baby, Miracle Child Survives Bullets

The boy who lived.

A short description of the events that unfolded for the miracle child in the year 1999 when his mother shot while he was still inside the womb.

Eighteen years ago, boyfriend Rae Carruth, an NFL football player had an elaborate scheme to kill his girlfriend and their 7-month old fetus after hearing about the unwanted pregnancy.

On Nov. 15, 1999, Cherica Adams, the girlfriend of Rae, was shot several times by Van Brett Watkins, a criminal who had been set out to complete the contracted kill.

After the heartless attack, Cherica called for the attention of her neighbors and managed to call 911 where she implicated Carruth as being on the scene and abandoning her there.

She was rushed to the hospital where internal damage made it hard to stop the loss of blood meanwhile her baby was still suffering.

After an hour of intense suffocation, the baby was delivered through emergency C-section on Nov. 16, 1999.

Although the child, named Chancellor Lee Adams would survive, he suffered permanent brain damage from the deprivation of oxygen. He would, in turn, have to live with cerebral palsy with marked delays in development milestones, motor skills, and speech.

Four weeks after the attack, Cherice succumbed to her wounds and her mother, Saundra Adams was granted custody of the miracle child.

Although Rae was arrested after the attack, he was released on bail under the condition that he would return if Cherice died. Instead, when she passed, he went on a run and was eventually picked up in Tennessee.

After a two-month trial, Carruth was found guilty on a series of lesser charges, including conspiracy to commit murder. Since the just failed to find him guilty, he avoided the death penalty and instead received a sentence of 18-24 year behind bars.

At sentencing, Saundra was called to testify. “Chancellor has cerebral palsy because of this act. This heinous act… We do thank God that he is still alive… He is our miracle child. Because he was not supposed to be here if that plan had been implemented properly…”.

Although Chancellor’s father had committed such a heinous act, he was never left out of the picture.

Chancellor was explained that his father had made a mistake and that he is now serving his time in prison. Carruth has been a model prisoner and is set to be released October 2018, after completing his minimum sentence.

To most’s surprise, Chancellor plans to greet his father at the prison gates, Saundra, as always, by his side.
